St. Joseph’s Preps Cruised to a 74-45 Win over West Philly.
St. Joseph’s opened up their season with a pretty comfortable win over West Philly in the John Chaney Memorial Showcase. From the tip-off they made sure to punch West Philly in the mouth and was able to withstand any type of run they tried to make. Sophomore guard Jaron McKie started the game off on a personal 10-0 run alone with 3 straight threes and one being an and one. His outstanding 14pt performance allowed him to win the game’s MVP award. His backcourt teammate who’s also a sophomore, Olin Chamberlain, was doing a little bit of everything for St. Joseph’s Prep. Chamberlain was the run stopper making sure whenever West Philly appeared to be on a run he’d have an answer for them. Chamberlain finished with a team-high 17pts and a bunch of assists.
Olin Chamberlain 6’0 Sophomore
Olin Chamberlain (featured picture) is a 2025 lead guard that seems to always play a well rounded game when I get to catch him in action. This is my third time watching him play and now I’m actually getting to know his name. Chamberlain showed his ability to run the offense really well, getting the ball to his open shooters, his big man posting hard inside and delivering dimes to guys running the break. His passing skills and accuracy when passing allowed him to thread needles when making cross court passes. His ability to dish the ball also opened up opportunities for him to get going as the defense started to give him open looks and he made them pay. Knocking down both threes and mid-range jump shots off the bounce was amazing to watch with the way Chamberlain set his feet to stay on balance. Defensively, Chamberlain did a good job of talking to his teammates, being an on ball pest, taking the lead and doing a bunch of the things that don’t show up in the stats. As long as the backcourt duo of Chamberlain and McKie can continue their style of play St. Joseph’s Prep should have an interesting year and a bright future with such a young roster.
Jaron McKie 6’1 Sophomore
McKie is a 2025 sophomore guard that showed his ability to heat up quickly from the outside. McKie has the perfect shooting mechanics, shoots the same shot every time in rhythm, knows how to step in and shoot the mid-range jump shot and knows when to drive to the basket. He’s a true floor spacer that showed his ability to move without the basketball to find his open spots. McKie wasn’t one-dimensional as he was capable of beating his man off the dribble to make plays for himself and others. McKie runs the floor hard in the open floor and finishes well in traffic. Just as a sophomore, one can see the immediate growth to his game as he simply plays the right way. Always under control, emotionless so never bothered, a sneaky rebounder and an underrated passer. McKie is definitely one name to remember as the early season goes on.
