Who Stood Out at the NGSHoops High School Elite 60?

By

Snellville, GA – The NGSHoops High School Elite 60 brought together a strong group of prospects from across the Southeast. There was a lot of talent in the gym and several players found ways to separate themselves throughout the day. Below are a few of the names that stood out to me during the event.

‘28 Ryan Finerghty | 6’0” SG | Leesville Road HS (Raleigh, NC)

Quick twitch guard with a tight handle and good vision. Really active defender that gets into his man and stays in the action. Has quick changes of direction with the ball and can get defenders leaning. Keeps his eyes up when he gets into the paint. Made some really good passes once the defense started to collapse. Dominated the 3pt competition and preceded that with blistering accuracy from beyond the arc in every game this weekend. Is garnering D1 interest and rightfully so. His game translates very well.

’29 Jacorey Lee | 6’0” PG | Galloway (Atlanta, GA)

Strong handle and really sharp east to west movement. Keeps his head up and pushed the pace well. Good athlete that can play fast without getting completely out of control. Changes directions quickly and does a good job keeping the defender on his heels. Really solid with the ball in his hands. Can get above the rim for the finish in transition.

’29 Ashton Burt | 6’5” SF | Hebron Christian Academy (Dacula, GA)

Strong bodied wing that finishes really well going to his left and to his right. Uses his frame well once he gets around the basket and isn’t afraid of contact. Was able to physically outmuscle the majority of the players in attendance. Great motor and good hands around the ball. Rebounded at a high level offensively and defensively. Has the strength to keep his line when a defender gets into him. Tough player to deal with when he gets downhill. Breakout performer on the weekend that should start attacting some college interest in due time.

’29 Jackson Baldwin | 5’11” PG | Campbell HS (Smyrna, GA)

Strong downhill point guard with an explosive first step. Gets into the paint in a hurry and showed a good pull-up jumper from mid-range. Can stop quickly once defenders start retreating and get right into his shot. Plays with good strength off the bounce. Really tough to contain once he gets going with the ball in his hands.

’29 Kedar Washington | 6’0” PG | Choctawhatchee HS (Fort Walton Beach, FL)

Athletic willing defender that played extremely hard on both ends of the floor. Knocked down several snatch back pull-up jumpers and got out in transition whenever he had the chance. Looked very comfortable getting into his pull-up jumper off the bounce. Was consistently breaking his matchups down with counter moves and constant movement with or without the ball. Overall, he’s a really good athlete that plays with energy, pace and skill.

’28 Adam Johnson | 5’8” PG | Therrell HS (Atlanta, GA)

Strong athletic floor general that got a ton of paint touches throughout the weekend. Was a pest defensively and routinely got into the mix in the paint for steals while picking up his opponents the full length of the floor. Gets into the body of defenders and doesn’t shy away from contact at all. Did a good job getting downhill, kicking out to the open man and staying aggressive enough to create opportunities for himself to score.

’29 Mason Sanders | 5’11” PG | Woodland HS (Stockbridge, GA)

Proved to be compact guard that can make shots from multiple spots on the floor at a high level. Good athlete with a fast first step. Defenders have to respect the jumper out to 22′ and he can get by them quickly if they press up out of control. Really good scoring ability from the guard spot. Has some burst when he’s in attack mode. Moved well without the ball and created good floor spacing for his team.

’29 Jelani Cadette | 6’2” PG | Next Level Academy (Alpharetta, GA)

Really good athlete that really thrives in transition. Was seemingly involved in every possession on both sides of the ball. Motor was never ending and his frame allowed him to be a mismatch threat with the ball in his hands. Was easily stronger than most of the smaller guards but was skilled enough to pick bigger defenders apart with his creativity. Rebounded the ball well for a guard and defended multiple positions without much trouble. Was a clear stock riser from the weekend.
