NGS ended the month of August with the Girl’s Elite 60 showcase which brought out some of the best young rising stars that the nation has to offer. Here’s a few names that you can look to hear in the upcoming years of girls grassroots basketball:
Tegan Ellis -2029 – Wing
Ellis probably had the best weekend at the Elite60 Showcase after not only winning Most Outstanding player for the varsity hoopers, but also won the three point contest as well. Standing at 6’0, Ellis is an all around player that caused havoc on the perimeter and the paint while scoring on all three levels on the offensive end.
Neveah Anderson – 2030 -Guard
Anderson is box office. Plain and simple. She is currently a freshman at Creekside high school and is on the city’s radar of most entertaining prospects. Quick moves, leadership, and high level scoring are all aspects that define Anderson’s game.
Payton Day – 2030 – Guard
Payton Day is a truly tough guard that not only embraces big plays but also embraces contact. She can score from anywhere on the floor but watching her make light work of larger defenders in the paint is a sigh to behold. Day is currently a freshmen at Grayson high school and is also a young prospect that is about to spoken of in Georgia’s stout 2030 recruiting class.
Tiffany Moore – 2030 – Forward/Center
Moore is a product of North Carolina who came down to Atlanta to showcase her skills this passing weekend at the Elite60 Showcase. Standing at 6’5, Moore literally had a hand in every defensive play for her teams during the showcase. Saying that she controlled the paint would be an understatement. Rebounds (offensive and defensive), blocks, and interior buckets came in bunches. She ran the floor with grace for her stature as well. Moore is a young prospect that will be at the top of every power five’s radar very soon.
Briasia Hill – 2032 – Forward
Hill is a gem in Georgia’s young hooper circles. Standing at nearly 6ft already, Hill plays the game with an edge that turns heads immediately. Rebounds and second chance points come easily. There won’t be a play that she won’t be involved in. She hits the floor for every loose ball, initiates contact frequently, and does not allow anything to get past her without letting her presence be felt. Hill walked away with co-most outstanding players honors this past weekend for the middle school side as well.
Amina Wade – 2032 – Wing
Amina Wade is the definition of tenacity. She let her play do all of the talking this past weekend and took on every tough assignment available. Her scoring ability was easy to see as she constantly put pressure on defenses in transition but she had a number of tough blocks as well when providing help on the weak side for her squad. Wade knocked down a lot of long range jumpers which kept defenses honest. After her high level play she earned co-most outstanding player honors.
Zara Mopa – Combo guard
Mopa is a long combo guard from this past weekend who stood out with her versatility. She ran the floor with grace which helped her get to her spots and knock down open jumpers as well as get the ball to the open man to make plays from a facilitating standpoint. Mopa had a number of blocks as well as steals thanks to her wide wingspan.
Kynlee Swain – Wing
Swain is the younger sister of 2024 Miss Georgia basketball, Hailee Swain. At 6’0 Swain made a big impact by creating turnovers and getting tough interior buckets. Her speed gave her the ability to make plays on the defensive side then get out to finish in transition. With a lot of upside and her having a blueprint to what a an outstanding basketball player looks like, look for Swain’s name to be called out when discussing Georgia’s top prospects.
Marley Walker – Guard
Marley Walker is always mentioned when speaking on top performers at showcases. She knows how to constantly put pressure on defenses whether that comes by getting past defenders on the perimeter with her ever growing moveset, or simply making the defense pay by not being in her face on the perimeter. She started the middle school showcase game with the first 10 points and it was a sigh to behold. Walker’s name is already making its rounds to power 5 coaches even as an eighth grader.
Onyekachi Eke-Okoro – Guard
Eke-Okoro played with a chip on her shoulder all weekend long. As a small guard it was imperative for her to make her presence felt and that came by way of pushing the offenses she led to the limit while being one of the most stout defenders on the floor. She knocked down a number of shots and ended each game with at least three steals. Eke-Okoro won the top defensive player award for middle schoolers and is definitely a promising young prospect in the state of GA.
