Pope Boys Dynamic Duo Shines
Stanton German and Drew Abney Keep Pope Rolling as Momentum Builds
Pope’s senior dynamic duo of Stanton German and Drew Abney continues to flourish as the season picks up steam. Pope High School has now won 5 of its last 6 games and sits at 10-4 overall, powered by the steady production, confidence, and leadership coming from its backcourt. This group is finding its rhythm at the right time and the seniors are setting the standard.
At the Wood Elite Showdown, German and Abney put on a show, combining for 60 points, 30 apiece, to lead Pope past Paulding County High School.

German was in his bag, showcasing his ability to score at all three levels. The lanky guard pairs high level athleticism with a consistent defensive motor, impacting the game far beyond just scoring. His length and versatility continue to cause problems for opposing backcourts.
Abney matched that energy possession for possession. A standout dual sport athlete on the diamond, he is locked in on finishing his basketball career the right way. His poise, shot making, and feel for the game were evident as he helped control the tempo and deliver timely buckets. Abney’s leadership and competitive edge are key pieces as Pope pushes toward a potential state title run.

Paulding County showed plenty of fight and was led by senior guard Jerron Wilson, who delivered a monster performance. Wilson poured in a game high 38 points, repeatedly breaking down the defense off the dribble and creating quality looks for himself. He was a constant threat and kept Paulding County within striking distance all night.
