Georgia High School Hoops Jan. 22-28
Sandy Creek’s big three consisting of Amari Brown, Jacobi Robinson and Micah Smith has the Patriots on verge of yet another 20+ win season. Amari and Jacobi are two guards with polished skillsets and play with a high IQ. Both players compete on both ends, with tenacious ball defense that creates turnovers for opposing guards. Offensively they both are capable of scoring 20+ with smooth shooting and the ability to take defenders off the dribble and score efficiently. Micah Smith easily one of the best forwards in GA. The JMU commit has great size at 6’8 and is an automatic scorer in the paint. Smith runs the floor well in the fast break offense and is looking to play above the rim every possession. He can stretch the floor from the perimeter and is a crafty finisher around other forwards around the rim. Micah is an asset on the defensive end and on the glass, and will only get better at the next level.
Mount Paran Eagles has a nice group of junior guards in Cam Hewling & Christoper Park and senior standout in Carter Galbreath. Hewling is all around scorer that can score from anywhere on the court. He has a natural feel for the game and plays well in the offense. Park is capable of being a streaky shooter from either mid range or the perimeter. He’s aggressive off dribble and looks to make a play with the ball in his hands and made several big time momentum plays against South Atlanta that put them in postion to win. Senior guard Carter Galbreath is also aggressive scorer looking to make a play. He plays a balanced game with attacking downhill and shooting from the field and reads the defense well to make the right play. A nice group to add to your watchlists for both 2024 & 2025.
Duor Duor is an intriguing prospect out of South Atlanta high school. At 6’7 he’s a mismatch against most defenders and had great hands and feet to only be sophomore. He has wing upside potential and showed flashes of being able to play around the perimeter with his ball handling skills. What makes him special is he ability to find open spaces on the floor for teammates to find him for easy baskets. Duor dominates the glass on both ends and is an asset as shot blocker. Duor led his team to a win against Mount Paran and finished with a game high 22 points in dominating fashion. He’s is definitely a player to watch as he matures and continues his high school career.
Kell has a nice group this year in the front & back court. 2024 F Cannon Richards is that high motor forward that every coach wants. He’s aggressive on the glass which is incredibly important to make a deep playoff run. Richards has a nice mid range pull up and can finish through contact at the rim. USF commit Cee Brown already has the collegiate athleticism and attributes that guards at the next level need to be successful. He’s quick off the dribble and hard to stay in front of with this ball in his hands. At times it looks like he’s playing at a level faster than everyone else on the court. He can create off isolation, shoot consistently from the field, and is a great rebounder as a guard. Jaylon Colon is definitely a top guard prospect in 2024. Colon has serious range from 3 paired with his ability to run the offense makes him special. He’s a key component the Longhorns offense and plays well in the offense, scoring or facilitating to the hot hand. Colon is the X factor on how deep Kell will advance come tournament time.
Khayri Dunn is a special talent out of Tucker HS. He’s a true scorer that can score points in a hurry. Dunn is dangerous off the dribble from the perimeter and can consistently create offense off isolation. Downhill as a slasher he’s just as effective and is crafty around the rim as a finisher. He’s a great passer and facilitator and plays well within the Tigers offense. Dunn was clutch down the stretch against M.L King including the game winning basket with 3.5 seconds remaining the game. Definitely a player to watch if you’re not already as Tucker prepares to make another deep playoff run.
