Marietta, GA – The 2031 Elite 60 Showcase brought together some of the top young prospects from across the Southeast for an invite-only event loaded with talent. Each year, there have been several young prospects that introduced themselves to the national stage via this showcase. Much of the same happened over the course of the weekend.
Remington Williams – 6’4” SG (GA) long athletic and wiry guard with skill. Showed an excellent ability to make tough shots throughout the event and didn’t need much space to get his jumper off. Has a really good fadeaway jumper that he can get to from the mid-post and looked very comfortable using it. Uses his length well when rising up for shots and has the ability to score over defenders. Really skilled guard that showed a nice bag of tricks offensively. Tough shot maker with a go-to shot that stood out.
Mauriee Jackson – 6’1” PG (GA) explosive combo guard with really good athleticism. Has the type of bounce that can catch you by surprise around the rim. Explosive guard that puts a lot of pressure on defenders when he has space to get downhill. Was locked in defensively and did a good job of turning ball-handlers and pushing them towards the sideline for steals. Highlight level player that has plenty of substance to go along with the exciting style of play.
Kayden King – 6’6” SF (GA) tall and long wing that is only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. Rebounded the basketball at a very high level and used his length extremely well around the glass. Stepped out to knock down jumpers from deep range and handled the ball in transition on a few occasions. Defensively he proved to be a versatile threat that can switch between 1-4 comfortably. Played with great motor and energy from start to finish.
Ziyon Simmons – 5’10” PG (FL) crafty floor general that routinely broke defenses down with his handle. Didn’t get rattled at all when defenders picked him up with pressure and continued to play with great poise. Got into the paint at will and did a really good job keeping defenders off balance off the dribble. Once he got inside the defense he consistently found ways to make the right play. Made everyone around him better and kept the offense moving. Really good point guard that showed excellent control and was very difficult to speed up.
Syrus Stapleton – 5’5” PG (GA) point guard that played a winning brand of basketball throughout the event. Registered a ton of hockey assists and consistently found the open man with simple passes through the defense. Did a great job keeping the ball moving and didn’t try to make things more difficult than they needed to be. As a scoring option he took what the defense gave him and kept the game simple. Really good feel for when to pass and when to look for his own shot. Made a lot of plays that may not show up in the box score but helped his team.
Armoni Greene – 6’0” CG (GA) versatile scoring threat that can put the ball in the basket from all over the floor. Knocked down shots consistently from the outside and mid-range while also showing the ability to get to the rim at will. Has a really good scoring package and doesn’t have to rely on one area of the floor to get his points. Was also very alert defensively and used his quick hands to create several breakout layups. Made plays on both ends throughout the event. Primed to break out in a major way.
Amir Bigelow – 6’1” CG (NC) scoring machine that simply knows how to put the ball in the basket. Has a strong frame and budding athleticism at the combo guard spot. Made shots from all over the floor and showed the ability to score in a number of different ways. Has a knack for finding opportunities offensively and doesn’t need much to get himself going. Strong guard that already has a really good scoring feel to his game. One to monitor closely as he continues to grow and develop.
Jax Teal – 6’1” PG (GA) arguably the most impressive offensive threat in attendance with his blend of range effort handle and court vision. Can really shoot the basketball and has the handle to create when defenders try to take away his jumper. Also showed excellent court vision and did a great job finding teammates once he broke down the defense. Has all the makings of a big time scoring threat but is equally dangerous creating shots for others. Really good offensive guard that can hurt defenses in several different ways. Very impressive showing.
